Pelicans - WIP.

This is a work in progress (WIP). It is an oil painting on board, 18 x 25 inches. I used photo I took on holidays in Mallacoota where there are always plenty of pelicans to photograph. It has taken a long time to get this far as I only work on it for around 2 hrs a week. I forgot to remove the stick at the bottom before taking the picture. This is used to rest your hand on as you are painting so you don't rest your hand on where you have just painted (I must learn to use that!) Seeing the painting up here helps me to find bits and pieces that need work!!

Damn! I'm wondering how this is unfinished and still a WIP... oh well, you're obviously the expert!
Love the pelicans, love the water effects and can't wait to see the finished work so that I can compare with this one to see the difference.. :)

I think working only two hours a week allows you to be a lot more thoughtful and meticulous about what you like and don't like. This is SUCH a refined painting! I likee how you've handled the reflections on the water, and the subtle values in the birds feathers. Really nicely done.

Realism is somehting that has always caught my eye. This is already beyond lovely; and of course it will be even more so when you've completed it. Another thing that always catches my eye is water reflections. I don't think anyone has captured it better than you have here. Excellent, excellent work!
